Ab-Soul - Herbert

Cook Time: 1 Hour and 6 Minutes / Skill Level: Beginner

Ingredients:

  • 2 cups top shelf beat flour

  • 1/2 cup personal powder

  • 1/2 cup clever bar oil

  • 2 tbsp feature sauce

  • 1 tsp rappity rap spice

After over six years of waiting, Ab-Soul finally has graced us with another album, Herbert. Throughout the course of the album, Soulo speaks from a much more introspective and personal frame than his previous, very cryptic, Do What Thou Wilt. He talks about different things he’s been going through, such as interactions he’s had, relationships he’s had, who he is, who he wants to be, etc. Ab-Soul has clearly been through a lot these past six years, both physically and mentally, and he used this album to let the listener know exactly what “a lot” was for him. It’s a fantastic listen through and through getting to here the more personal side of his story and what he believes. On top of all the instrospection, we also get the standard “bar after bar” rapping style Ab-Soul is known for. There are more than a handful of songs on Herbert with nothing but complex rhyme schemes and lyrics you can study for days. He is a true wordsmith and with this album, he’s shown no signs of slowing down. Hear our full thoughts in the video review below!
